HATTIESBURG, Miss. (WDAM) - William Carey University welcomed Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps srudents from across Mississippi on Friday for inaugural Crusader Classic Drill Competition.

The event was organized by the university’s Office of Veteran and Military Affairs, led by Brigadier General Mark Prine.

“The military, in general, has a standard for being able to move large groups around that’s called drill and ceremonies,” Prine said. “You take that and you basically put it to where you’re teaching people how to move together as a group. This is a great team-building exercise.”

More than 120 cadets from eight counties competed in the inaugural event. The only local program represented was Lamar County’s JROTC.
