PERKIOMEN — It was the middle of February, long before Aiden Messatzzia would take his first snap as the varsity starting quarterback of the Perkiomen Valley football program. The young signal caller was still only a freshman, but he was already in preparation mode.

Messatzzia would rise before dawn in the dead of winter to get to PV on Tuesday mornings to watch film with head coach Rob Heist. There’s a certain level of expectations that comes with being the starting QB of this team, and no amount of early cramming would be too soon.

On Friday night in his fifth career start against unbeaten Owen J. Roberts, Messatzzia resembled a multi-year starter by completing 14 of 20 passes for 148 yards and two touchdowns as the Vikings were in command for much of the night in a PAC-opening, 28-14
