MABANK, Texas (KLTV) - When Anna Villines was a sophomore at Mabank High, she saw her fellow students throwing out whole fruits and unopened milk cartons.
That sparked her idea, that’s now turned into the Mabank High Community Fridge.
“Especially at lunch, it gets wiped out, people bring food and the second people put food in it’s gone,” said Villines. sometimes it doesn’t even make it to the fridge.”
Students can put their untouched fruit and milk cartons from lunch or breakfast into the fridge. Villines says it helps fight food waste and student hunger.
“I even have a couple of friends that struggle financially, so I know they’re getting three meals a day or they’re getting that extra food,” said Villines.
Villines hopes the idea spreads to other schools.
