Vessel speeds past surfers at Lower Trestles.

A live camera positioned at one of Southern California’s premier surfing venues captured footage Friday of a boat plowing through the lineup.

It wasn't clear whether the vessel’s captain purposely split the lineup at Lower Trestles in San Clemente, or whether the vessel was somehow left on autopilot.

The boat did not appear to strike anybody. But the terrifying footage, captured by a Surfline camera, has enraged plenty of viewers.

Surfline’s description: “California law is crystal clear: you can’t drive a boat within 200 feet of a beach or within 100 feet of swimmers or surfers unless you’re under 5 mph. Anything else is reckless—and straight-up illegal.”

One of the most pointed comments: “Try that in Hawaii. The locals will meet you at the marina.”

It was unclear as of Saturday morning if the vessel’s captain had been contacted by authorities.

Lower Trestles is on Trestles Beach in San Onofre State Park, which straddles the Orange County and San Diego County border.
