NEW ROADS, La. (WAFB) - Troopers are investigating an officer-involved shooting that happened just after 5 p.m. on Friday, September 19.

According to Louisiana State Police, the situation began when officers with the New Roads Police Department were sent to Hospital Road in response to a person causing a disturbance behind a business.

When police arrived at the scene, they encountered John Sexton, 45, of New Roads, troopers said. They added that during the encounter, an officer fired his weapon at Sexton, striking him several times.

Sexton was taken to a hospital and is in critical condition at this time, according to LSP.

Troopers said that no officers were injured.

The investigation is still ongoing, and officials are still working to gather more information about what happened.
