Honolulu firefighters extinguished an early-morning blaze at a Pearl City auto recycling facility today.

The Honolulu Fire Department received a 911 call at 1:22 a.m. reporting smoke at a Lehua Avenue address, officials said in a news release.

The first unit arrived at 1:32 a.m. and began battling the blaze in a large pile of metal. HFD said they responded with nine units and 28 personnel, who had the fire under control by 3:13 a.m. and extinguished at 6:45 a.m.

“Heavy equipment was utilized to expose hot spots which assisted firefighters conducting overhaul tactics to search for hidden fires to prevent rekindling,” HFD officials said in the release.

An HFD investigator is investigating to determine the origin and cause of the fire.
