Legendary ex-Eagles coach Mick Malthouse has thanked police after a man was charged over the attempted invasion of his home earlier this month.

The 72-year-old fought off a group of three people at his East Melbourne property about 12.30am on September 4.

Malthouse was stabbed in the chest with a screwdriver, sustaining minor injuries. He declined medical treatment.

Victoria Police said on Thursday they had arrested three people over a months-long crime spree.

A 36-year-old man has been charged with 25 offences, including burglary, attempted aggravated home invasion and intentionally causing injury. He did not apply for bail when he faced court.

“The police have been outstanding through all of this. It’s in their hands now,” Malthouse told The Age.
