ST. LOUIS - The Great Forest Park Balloon Race has been cancelled Saturday due to inclement weather concerns, with wet and stormy conditions likely through the evening hours.
Organizers say they worked closely with the National Weather Service to make the decision on the race.
"The safety of pilots and spectators is our utmost concern," said a post on the event's Facebook page.
The balloons were previously expected to launch in the St. Louis skies around 4:30 p.m. Saturday.
The Great Forest Park Balloon Race is an annual event that usually takes place around mid-September each year, but it's unclear if this year's canceled race will be rescheduled in the near future.
