Event set for 11 a.m. Sunday in Glendale

A memorial service for slain Turning Point USA co-founder Charlie Kirk will take place Sunday in Glendale, and Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell said Friday her office will “defend the rights of those who come to mourn or protest peacefully.”

Mitchell said the memorial provides a time for Maricopa County residents “to step up and show the nation - and the world - that we value dignity, civility and the rule of law.”

The event is planned for 11 a.m. Sept. 21 at State Farm Stadium, 1 Cardinals Drive, Glendale. Doors will open at 8 a.m.

Kirk, 31, was shot and killed during a rally at Utah State University on Sept. 10. He was known for traveling to college campuses around the country and debating college students.
