Bright smiles frozen in time, each one marking a life lost to suicide.
September is Suicide Awareness Month and The American Foundation of Suicide Prevention hosted the “Out of the Darkness Walk” in Sioux City, to help bring awareness to suicide and push forward a conversation.
Hannah Tastad is the chair coordinator of the walk and was inspired to put on this event after she overcame mental health issues of her own while she was in high school.
“I feel like there’s a huge stigma around mental health. And I feel like its not talked about enough,” said Tastad. “So by me doing this and putting this on for the community, I feel like it makes people talk about mental health and suicide.”
