Friday night's postgame fireworks show at Polar Park in Worcester was cut short after two employees suffered superficial injuries, according to a press release from the ballpark.
Fireworks technicians activated a safety switch after several fireworks in the centerfield bank tipped to the side and launched horizontally toward left field instead of vertically, according to the statement. The display ended nearly two-thirds into the scheduled 11-minute show.
One employee assigned to guard a fan “safety zone” received a superficial burn, was taken to a local hospital as a precaution, and returned to the ballpark later in the evening, the ballpark said.
