ANGOLA, La. —

A hunger strike at the new Louisiana ICE Processing Center in Camp J at Angola is going into its fourth day.

According to the National Immigration Project, 19 detainees at the ICE facility are striking due to what they say are inhumane conditions. Advertisement

The organization said it has received reports that people are missing basic supplies such as toothbrushes, toilet paper and shampoo and have not had the opportunity to speak with ICE officers upon their arrival.

The detainees are demanding medical care, mental health care, necessary medication, basic needs such as toilet paper, hygiene products and clean water.

They are also asking for visitation from ICE officers to address and remedy their grievances about the facility and prison conditions.
