WILLINGTON, Connecticut — Would-be thieves caused major property damage at a Willington gas station early Friday morning when they used a box truck in an attempt to steal an ATM machine.
Connecticut State Police from Troop C in Tolland responded to the incident, which occurred around 1:53 a.m.
State police posted a 30-second clip of the attempted robbery on Facebook Saturday afternoon.
After breaking into the gas station, which was closed at the time, the suspects can be seen on surveillance footage using a U-Haul truck and some sort of cord to try to pull the ATM out the front doors.
They were unsuccessful. As the video shows, the ATM did not budge.
However, the front doors were smashed, items were strewn across the store, and a major mess was made.
