DULUTH — No. 24 Minnesota Duluth seized the momentum after losing the first set, then ran with it, taking down No. 8 Southwest Minnesota State 3-1 (23-25, 25-20, 25-14, 25-16) on Saturday at Romano Gym.

After SMSU prevailed narrowly in set one, UMD tightened the lid on the Mustangs' offense as the match went on. SMSU's hitting percentage declined in each of the four sets, going from .313 in the first to .056 in the fourth.

UMD also prevented any individual Mustang from getting hot, with five SMSU players recording seven kills, but no more, for the match.

The Bulldogs started taking over in the middle of set two, winning nine of 10 points to turn a tie game into a 20-12 lead. SMSU ate up much of the cushion but four late points for the Bulldogs kept the Mustangs from completing the comeb
