DICKINSON — A positive atmosphere might not be the first thing associated with conversations about suicide, but on Saturday, Sept. 20, that’s exactly what filled the air at Legacy Square. The Out of the Darkness Walk, an annual event, took place in downtown Dickinson for the first time, with hundreds attending to enjoy music, connect over shared experience and support each other.

246 people pre-registered for the walk. According to volunteers, even more arrived the day of the event.

“It’s amazing,” said one volunteer - and loss survivor - describing the community’s show of mutual support.

“This is about to be a record,” said Carla Anton to attendees during her presentation at the event. “You’re part of more than a million people nationwide walking to prevent suicide.”
