NORMAN — Former Coastal Carolina football coach David Bennett went on a famous rant about cats and dogs more than a decade ago.

“Be a dog,” he said. “We don’t need no meows. We don't need no cats. We need more dogs.”

Earlier this year, that soundbite served as the intro for the hip hop song “Game Winner,” by BossMan Dlow. That’s how it found the ears of R Mason Thomas, Gracen Halton and Oklahoma’s defensive line group. They took it and ran with it.

“We got some dogs,” Halton, the OU senior defensive tackle, said Saturday night. “We call it the Dog Pound. That’s what we call the D-line, the Dog Pound. So we got some dogs. After one dog come and one dog get out, you know the next dog gon’ come in.”
