MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- A 13-year-old was taken to Juvenile Court on Saturday after police say he beat his mother with a stick and tried to push her off a balcony before running away.
Police were called to the Cabana Circle Apartments in North Memphis for an aggravated assault call around 5:20.
A woman there told officers her son assaulted her to the point she thought she might die, and she defended herself with a knife.
She told police she and her son were arguing inside the apartment while she was cooking. The argument turned violent and the woman said her son pushed her onto a second-floor balcony and began hitting and grabbing her.
She said he left the apartment for a minute, came back with a large branch or stick, and began hitting her with it.
He then punched her in the head and chest
