MONROE, La. (KNOE) - Hundreds gathered Saturday at the Downtown River Market for the Walk to End Alzheimer’s, a community event to raise funds for research and honor those affected by the disease.

Hosted by the Alzheimer’s Association, the walk began with a Promise Garden ceremony, where participants held colored flowers symbolizing personal connections to Alzheimer’s, from caregiving to remembrance.

“This is not a job for me,” said coordinator Rene Calloway . “I lost my grandmother in 2017, and seeing our community rally around finding a cure makes all the hard work worth it.”

Teams from schools, businesses, and local organizations joined caregivers and survivors for the one-mile walk along the riverfront. Organizers say funds raised support care, education, and research.
