BERNALILLO, N.M. —

Cities across the nation took part in the " Walk for Lives " event against fentanyl.

The event was put on by the organization United Against Fentanyl. According to their website, there were scheduled walks in Socorro, Albuquerque, Espanola and Bernalillo.

"It's empowering to see people out here. We have organizations here, and just families coming together. We're not alone," said Ranada DuPond, a mother who lost her son. "I lost my son six months ago to fentanyl. So, it's important to be here because I'm walking to make a change for the next generation. "

Kelly Opp, an organizer with the campaign " Keep NM Alive ", knows how dangerous the drug is after also losing her son. She said it's a risk many don't know they're taking.
