The University of Virginia’s College at Wise allowed two touchdowns in the first 11:53 of the game and never recovered in a 28-7 South Atlantic Conference football loss to nationally-ranked Wingate on Saturday.

UVa-Wise (0-4) was outgained 452-308 and committed three turnovers.

The Highland Cavaliers got on the board with 5:49 remaining in the second quarter on a 23-yard touchdown run by Daniel Thomas.

Thomas was limited to 60 yards on 18 carries after going over the 100-yard mark in UVa-Wise’s previous two games. He also caught fie passes for 52 yards.

D.J. Powell gained 130 yards on 10 catches in the loss, accounting for over half of Jake Corkren's 244 passing yards.
