The Georgia Council on Literacy's Georgia Reads Day is Monday, Sept. 22. Former NFL and Georgia football star Malcolm Mitchell has been a Georgia Reads Coach for a few years, sharing his story of hard-earned literacy and holding reading rallies to inspire others. His latest rally will take place Monday at the College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta.
Locally, the Reads Day livestream will be a precursor to the Savannah-Chatham County Public School System's own Literacy Week festivities. On Monday, younger students will tune into Mitchell's reading rally while older students will participate in "Stop Drop and Read" opportunities throughout the day. The school district's full slate of Literacy Week events runs from Sept. 30 through Oct. 4.
