This week, we said goodbye to our beloved cat . Midori had been our family’s cherished companion for 14 years – she was my baby before I had my actual babies. Before I even met my husband.

It was heartbreaking to say goodbye, but she had advanced cancer and the kindest thing we could do was release her from her suffering. So we made the horrible decision to ask the vet to put her to sleep.

It cost £150 – an expense we could’ve done without right now to be frank, but an unavoidable one. Our insurance – that we paid nearly £40 per month for – wouldn’t cover it because of her age. All of which did not make the experience any easier.

What I wasn’t prepared for, though, was the amount of upsells they’d try to push on us.
