GULFPORT, Fla. (WFLA) — The Gulfport Police Department said a woman was killed in a hit-and-run Saturday night.

The woman was riding a bike near Tangerine Avenue and 49th Street South at around 10 p.m. when she was struck by a passing car. Gulfport PD said she died of her injuries at the scene.

The car that hit her fled and was described as a white Hyundai Elantra with damage to the front bumper and a shattered windshield.

The crash rerouted traffic for a few hours Saturday evening as first responders worked to clear the scene, and residents were asked to avoid the area.
