A devastating hit, perhaps the most violent of the CFL season, took Blue Bombers receiver Keric Wheatfall out of Saturday’s game in Ottawa.
His team up 17-11 early in the fourth quarter, Wheatfall got his hands on a pass over the middle, only to be separated from the ball by Redbacks defender Adarius Pickett coming from the other direction.
Down on the turf for several minutes, the 26-year-old finally made his way off, clutching his side. He didn’t return.
“As a quarterback you can’t help but feel somewhat responsible… a bang-bang play,” Chris Streveler told the CJOB postgame show. “It’s always hard when you see one of your brothers go down. He’s a warrior. To be up and walking around and talking after the game, that’s a good sign.”
