UTEP's 31-25 loss to Louisiana-Monroe was as "same old UTEP" as "same old UTEP" gets.

A Miner team that came in dealing with prosperity and momentum as a big home favorite after back-to-back strong outings came out and laid a stink bomb on the Sun Bowl turf for three quarters when it fell behind 31-7.

How it happened

Just in time to raise hopes, they rallied, got within a score and twice had the ball with a chance for one of the most remarkable comebacks in program history.

And, as is often the case with UTEP when brilliant things appear on the horizon, everything was squandered in a loss that has to have them questioning their preparation and focus — everything, really — when they fell so far behind.
