JOHNSTON, R.I. (WPRI) -- A vigil will be held in Johnston this evening to honor the life of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

The 31-year-old Turning Point USA founder was horrifically killed wile speaking at a college in Utah on Sept 10.

The Republican Party of Rhode Island and Turning Point Action RI are hosting the event, which will be held at Johnston Memorial Park from 5-7 p.m.

"Charlie was more than a voice for conservative youth—he was a son, husband, father, and patriot who gave everything to the cause of freedom. His passing leaves a void in our movement, but his legacy lives on in each of us who continue the fight for faith, family, and country," the groups said in a release.

A national memorial will be held at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona at 11 a.m. local time,
