For the second year in a row, Fairbanks’ Shalane Frost claimed first place for women at the Equinox Marathon, while Scott Nutter of Wigton, England, earned his first Equinox victory for men on Saturday.
Nutter ran 2:48:43 in his debut to top a strong men’s field. Frost defended her 2024 title with a time of 3:28:21, securing back-to-back championships after years of near misses.
Nutter, who recently moved to Fairbanks, said running on Ester Dome and the surrounding trails was one of the most challenging marathon courses in North America. He had previously excelled on flat road races in Europe but admitted the Equinox tested him in an entirely different way.
“Halfway on this one, you’re at the top of Ester Dome, and then you’ve got to survive the downhill and turn right back into the uph
