It’s just simple courtesy.

Nobody wants to spend more time than they have to at the supermarket. And shoppers can help each other out by being just a little polite and self-aware.

But it doesn’t always work out that way.

I was at the supermarket on a recent Saturday morning. A small trip, not too much to get. I was hoping it would be a quick trip.

There were lots of checkout people working, always a good sign. I got on a line with just a single customer in front of me. He was already having his groceries rung up.

The guy didn’t even have that many items, so there was plenty of room for me to start putting my stuff on the conveyor belt.
