Republican Jack Ciattarelli and Democrat Mikie Sherrill will face off Sunday in the first debate of their increasingly heated race to become New Jersey’s next governor.

The two major-party candidates to succeed outgoing Democratic Gov. Phil Murphy will meet at Rider University in Lawrenceville just as mail-in voting begins and a little more than six weeks before the Nov. 4 Election Day.
