LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Hundreds of young women were introduced to careers that could take them to new heights as part of the seventh annual Girls in Aviation Day at Bowman Field airport.

Participants ages 8 through 18 got hands-on practice with flight simulators, drones and planes to encourage careers in aviation and STEM fields.

“We really wanted to get the girls involved in a creative way," said Allie Ranzau of Louisville Aviation. "How many times can you say you’ve painted a plane?”

Ranzau started her journey with Louisville Aviation three years ago, a path she wasn’t originally planning on pursuing. Her mother inspired her to pursue the career after initially wanting to become a real-estate agent.
