PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Philadelphia Flyers legend Bernie Parent has passed away, the team has confirmed.

He was 80 years old.

The Flyers released a statement on Sunday in regards to his passing.

Parent helped to deliver the team's first two Stanley Cups in 1974 and 1975.

His performance helped to earn him the Conn Smythe Trophy as MVP of the playoffs.

Parent was also the first Flyer to be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1984.

His career, unfortunately, ended abruptly in 1979 when a stick entered the eyehole of his mask, permanently damaging his vision and forcing him to retire at age 34.

His work with the Flyers continued after his retirement, as he became an ambassador for Ed Snider Youth Hockey & Education.
