HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) -- Several local leaders are issuing statements following a shooting that left one EPD officer in the hospital.

A release from the Evansville Police Department says a stolen vehicle was found by officers at a Rally’s on Virginia Street around 1:30 p.m. on Sunday. As officers approached two suspects, they fled, and one pulled out a gun and shot one officer. Police say officers returned fire and struck the suspect.

The officer and suspect were taken to the hospital for medical treatment. The officer is in stable condition. The condition of the suspect is unknown at this time.
