The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) of Ontario is investigating a serious crash involving a 14-year-old driver who was injured while being pursued by police in Scarborough early Sunday morning. The incident occurred just before 1 a.m. at the intersection of Kingston Road and Lawrence Avenue.

According to initial reports, a Toronto police officer in a marked cruiser was chasing the teenager for speeding when the boy's vehicle collided with another car. The SIU confirmed that the young driver sustained serious injuries and was transported to a hospital for treatment. The three occupants of the other vehicle involved in the crash were not seriously hurt.

The SIU has activated its mandate, which includes investigating incidents involving police that result in serious injury or death. They have assigned three investigators, along with two forensic investigators and a collision reconstructionist, to the case.

Toronto police initially reported that three vehicles were involved in the crash, but the SIU has stated that they currently have information indicating only two vehicles were part of the incident. As the investigation is ongoing, Toronto police have refrained from providing additional details.

The SIU is urging anyone with information about the crash, including video or photographs, to come forward and assist with their investigation.
