EDGEWOOD, British Columbia — An ostrich farm in the B.C. Interior is receiving support from American right-wing commentators as it faces a cull order for about 400 ostriches. The Universal Ostrich Farm in Edgewood has been urging supporters to gather at the farm to help save the birds after the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) mandated the cull due to an avian flu outbreak last December.

Conservative commentator Chris Sanders expressed his willingness to assist in relocating the ostriches to his ranches in Texas, Oklahoma, and South Dakota. In a Facebook video, Sanders stated, "I want to help the ostriches out there in Canada" and called on truck drivers to aid in the effort.

Katie Pasitney, a spokeswoman for the farm, acknowledged Sanders' offer and mentioned that they are currently exploring this option. In a Facebook post, she indicated that the CFIA might carry out the cull soon and urged the public to contact authorities, asking them to "stand on the right side of history."

The CFIA has not disclosed specific details or timing regarding the cull operation. This situation is not the first time the farm has gained international attention. In May, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. wrote to the CFIA president, requesting that the farm be spared from the cull. Kennedy, who served as the U.S. Secretary for Health and Human Services, noted in his letter that studying the ostriches' immune response to avian flu could provide "significant value."

The farm has previously attempted to halt the cull through legal channels, but it lost bids in both Federal Court and the Federal Court of Appeal. Recently, the farm was denied another stay of the cull order while it prepares to seek leave to appeal to the Supreme Court of Canada. This application must be submitted by October 3.
