Actioncomedies are as old as cinema itself. Buster Keaton and Charlie Chaplin deserve the most credit for popularizing the hybrid genre via movies like The General and Easy Street. These films are noted for expertly combining stuntwork and humor. However, it would take until the 1980s for the crossbreed to truly become a mainstay. This happened when known comedians such as Eddie Murphy began taking roles in action movies once again, and when famous martial artists such as Jackie Chan began incorporating hilarity into their movies.
