HARTFORD, Conn. — The Hartford Athletic soccer team requested an investigation by the United Soccer League into a Pittsburgh player's alleged use of "racially offensive language" after an abandoned match Saturday.

The game between Hartford Athletic and Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC took place Saturday evening at Hartford's Trinity Health Stadium.

Hartford Athletic said they "did not feel comfortable proceeding with the match" due to the language that was used by a player on the opposing team during an on-field verbal exchange .

"Yesterday's match was officially ruled an abandoned match due to the team's decision to leave the field after an incident between a Hartford Athletic and Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC player," the Hartford team wrote in a statement on Facebook Sunday. "We stand by
