FOXBOROUGH — Drake Maye said he didn’t suffer a head injury and the Patriots quarterback didn’t want to give anyone any reason to think he had.
On first and goal with 22 seconds left in the first half of the Patriots’ 21-14 loss to the Steelers, Maye was hit hard by Nick Herbig as he threw an incompletion. He got to his feet quickly.
Herbig got him again on the next play and again Maye hurried back up to avoid catching the concussion spotters’ attention.
"Shoot, I felt good. I learned from last year, if you get banged up, you’ve got to get back up quick or they’ll spot you," he said. “No, I felt fine. I feel good now. Shoot, just two good players that try and get after the quarterback, and that happens.”
Maye left the Patriots’ win over the Jets last year with an early conc
