WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools are taking another step to address their ongoing budget crisis — furloughing staff members in an effort to save money.

Over the weekend, employees received furlough notices following a Board of Education decision on August 19 to generate $1.6 million in savings for the district.

According to the district, furloughs will impact:

Most Central Office employees

All district administrators

Non-school-based instructional support personnel

Classified staff in the Administrative Building

Maintenance and facilities employees

Transportation employees

Other operational staff

The district says the number of unpaid days will depend on employee salary, ranging from five to 12 furlough days.
