Beach parties could be off-limits for thousands of schoolies on the Gold Coast this year because of beach erosion brought on by Cyclone Alfred.

Safety concerns have forced the state government and Gold Coast council to try to find an alternative site for the official schoolies hub before celebrations kick off on November 22.

Six months on from Cyclone Alfred, many of the city's famous beaches remain stripped of sand with rock walls exposed, making them unsuitable to host an estimated 15,000 teenage school leavers.

"We have been working closely with the City of Gold Coast on the best location for the schoolies hub," a Queensland government spokesperson said.
