GILBERT, Ariz. — Family members are mourning a Gilbert mother killed after being hit by an alleged drunk driver.

Officials said the crash happened at Recker and Ray roads just before 9 p.m. Friday. An initial investigation showed that an SUV driven by a 35-year-old man was traveling at a "high rate of speed," according to witnesses, when the driver ran a red light and hit the rideshare driver's car in the intersection.

The impact of the crash caused the rideshare driver's car to spin and hit a pole, police said. Nicole Snell, the rideshare driver, and Marisa Jorgenson, a backseat passenger, both died at the scene, officials said.

“Marisa was always out of my league," her former fiancé, David Chalmers, said. "Kind of in a different league of her own."
