Firefighters spent about two hours Sunday battling a two-alarm fire that raged inside a commercial building in Bell Gardens.
The fire was reported at 3:05 p.m. Sunday in the 6400 block of Clara Street, near Garfield Avenue, Los Angeles County Fire Department spokesman Fred Fielding told City News Service.
Firefighters arrived within five minutes and asked for more units at 3:24 p.m., Fielding said.
At one point, firefighters went into defensive mode, battling the flames from outside the building and protecting nearby structures, he said.
The flames were out at 5:07 p.m., Fielding said, adding that one firefighter suffered a minor injury.
ABC7 reported that at least 20 people were evacuated from the area.
The cause of the fire was under investigation, Fielding said.
