LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) -LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Mercer County is mourning the loss of a long-time fire chief. Former Mercer County Fire Chief Glenn Phillips died on Sunday. Fire officials say he’d been in poor health but add it was surprising to lose him so soon.

“When you talk about a career firefighter, Chief Phillips was the epitome of that,” said Dan Eades, the Mercer County Fire Public Information Officer.

For decades, Glenn Phillips helped keep people living in Central Kentucky safe. His lengthy firefighting career includes working for both the Lexington Fire Department and the Mercer County Fire Department.
