NEWBURYPORT — In an effort to inject some fun and community spirit into the current election cycle, the city has encouraged residents to enter their furry canine companions into its first-ever search for a “Dog Mayor.”

“We just thought it would be a fun thing to do during election season,” Mayor Sean Reardon said.
