RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- One year after Henrico County first approved $800,000 later increasing to $1.1 million to support Richmond’s homeless population, local shelters say the investment is paying off.

The money was allocated to two organizations, the Salvation Army’s Inclement Weather Shelter and HomeAgain Family Shelter.

County leaders call the funding a new step in a regional effort to address homelessness, noting that it’s the first time Henrico’s contribution has gone directly to shelters in Richmond.

Mandy Herbert, executive director of HomeAgain, said the support has made a measurable difference.
