A new Covid variant is spreading rapidly, causing a surge in infections and presenting unusual symptoms that could catch people off guard.
Over the past week, Ireland has seen a rise in cases, with 481 new infections reported, up from 425 the previous week. The variant is also responsible for a spike in cases across the U.S..
Health authorities suggest the increase is largely driven by the XFG variant, also known as Stratus, which currently accounts for 73% of all confirmed infections in Ireland, according to experts.
