Hackettstown, NJ – A New York man was arrested after police said he stole over $1,100 worth of merchandise from a CVS on Main Street last week.

On Wednesday, September 17, at about 12:49 p.m., an officer saw a man later identified as 42-year-old Robert M. Alphont running across Main Street with a bag while a CVS employee followed him and told him to stop, according to Hackettstown Police.

When Alphont spotted the police vehicle, he dropped the bag and continued walking away. Officers recovered the bag, which was found to contain $1,143.53 in stolen items, authorities said.

Alphont was taken into custody, charged with shoplifting, and lodged in the Warren County Correctional Facility.
