FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Sequoyah United Methodist Church is celebrating 60 years as a part of the Fayetteville community.
The church started in 1965, when just 24 people gathered for the first service. In the early years, the congregation met in spaces like Mt. Sequoyah, the VA Hospital, and the Wesley Foundation before finally building its first permanent space in 1968.
The church celebrated Sunday, Sept. 21, with a traditional service, potluck, and cake.
Over the decades, the church has become known for its community-driven traditions — especially the annual pumpkin patch, now in its 20th year.
“So many people here in Fayetteville, in Northwest Arkansas, they know us as the pumpkin patch church. Obviously, we're here 12 months out of the year, not just the month of October," Pastor Ron
