FOREST LAKE, Minn. — For the family of a Lino Lakes police officer killed in the line of duty, 20 years feels like both a lifetime – and a day – ago.
“Twenty years is a long time. And 20 years is actually a short time. My kids are now 20 and 21, and they’re my mile markers,” said Jennifer Silvera Lindemer, widow of Officer Shawn Silvera.
Jennifer’s children – Jordan and Maddie – were just infants when their father was struck and killed by a fleeing suspect on Interstate 35W on Sept. 6, 2005. But from those first raw days to today, Jennifer persisted for the sake of those children and to honor her husband’s legacy.
“I look at what we’ve gone through – the loss of Shawn – but also the love we’ve received from so many people,” Silvera Lindemer reflected.
