Tasmania’s west coast will lose its last remaining bank on Thursday, forcing thousands of Aussies to travel hours just for simple banking services many take for granted.

Bendigo Bank will shut down its branch in Tasmania’s Queenstown despite a change.org petition urging for the branch to remain open and cries from locals about how it will impact their community.

The town is a four hour round trip to Burnie on Tasmania's north coast or an eight hour round trip to Hobart.

Janet Lay, one of the petition’s organisers, said the branch closing could have a domino effect on the town.

“Towns all across Australia - once they lose their last bank (they) die,” Ms Lay told Sky News Australia.
