LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - Kentucky Derby-winning jockey Brian Hernandez, Jr., is recovering after being injured during a race at Churchill Downs.
The horse racing forum Paulick Report said Hernandez fell during the third race Sunday. A post from his wife’s social media said he was taken to the ICU at UofL Hospital with seven broken ribs, a punctured lung and some internal bleeding.
Hernandez won the 150th Kentucky Derby riding Mystik Dan the day after riding Thorpedo Anna to victory in the Kentucky Oaks.
